COP29
Dates: 11-22 November 2024 | Location: Baku, Azerbaijan
What is COP29?
COP29, or the 29th annual Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), represents a crucial global gathering. This year, Azerbaijan is playing host.
What to expect from COP29?
The COP29 conference will encompass various key sessions. Building on the focus on renewables and nuclear power from COP28 in Dubai, the agenda features crucial discussions, such as finalising the first enhanced transparency framework and the new collective quantified goal on finance. Additionally, the 61st sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 61) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 61) will also take place.
Is the world on a 1.5-degree pathway?
This was a key part of the discussion at COP28. Our independent energy transition outlook (ETO), updated for 2024/25, maps four different routes through the energy transition with increasing levels of ambition and cost – but also difficulty and investment. It highlights the credible but narrow pathway to net zero and the increasing risk of a potentially devastating 3 ˚C pathway.
