Report summary
No new North American LNG projects were sanctioned in Q1 2024, continuing the trend from the final quarter of 2023. Still, last year saw record new capacity approved from four projects totaling more than 37 mmtpa. For 2024, we expect fewer new North American project announcements due to several uncertainties. With an unsettled backdrop, LNG project developers that can successfully overcome mounting risks and challenges are competitively advantaged and more likely to achieve a more elusive FID.
