Kami is a greenfield iron ore project, located near Wabush and Labrador City. The expectation is for this mine to produce approximately 9 million tonnes per year of direct reduction iron ore concentrate with over 67.6% Fe and low impurities. The project was acquired by Champion Iron in 2021 and gained significant momentum with the release of a pre-feasibility study in March 2024. In December 2024, a strategic partnership was announced, wherein Nippon Steel and Sojitz acquired a 49% stake. Kami is currently planned as a mix of a conventional open-pit mine for the ore and an in-pit crushing system for the waste. Set to be run as a conventional truck-and-shovel mining operation where the extracted raw ore will be processed at a beneficiation facility
