Report summary
West Angelas is one of two mines in Robe River JV operated by majority owner Rio Tinto. West Angelas' mining cost is the highest among all of Rio Tinto's mines due to the high waste to ore ratio of almost 4:1. Despite this, the ore is needed for its low phosphorous levels (0.08%), which are required to blend down the higher concentrations of phosphorous found in Brockman ore from other mines. Development of deposits C and D were commissioned in June 2021. Rio Tinto plans to develop new deposits to replace the existing tons by 2027.
