Report summary
The Baram Delta lies off the north coast of Borneo and straddles the maritime boundaries of Malaysia and Brunei. Production is well established in the onshore and shallow water parts of the basin. A number of deepwater oil discoveries have been made within both the Bruneian and Malaysian sector in recent years, and total resource discovered in the Bruneian part of the basin has reached 7.6 bnboe. In April 2021, Malaysia, through its national oil company PETRONAS, formalised a Unitisation Agreement with the Government of Brunei Darussalam for the Gumusut-Kalap and Geronggong-Jagus East fields which straddle along the Malaysian-Brunei maritime boundary. The agreement highlights the continued cooperation between both countries, which provides a positive outlook for future discoveries. The shelf play has been extensively explored, with the deepwater play being a primary target for future oil discoveries.
