The Bass Strait has been one of Australia's main oil and gas producing regions since the 1970s. The project is made up of 19 platforms and four subsea tiebacks located in the Gippsland Basin, offshore Victoria. Over 30 fields make up the Bass Strait grouping. In earlier years, oil production was the major focus, but gas has become increasingly important. Oil output has been in declined since its peak in 1985.
