Frostpipe ceased to transport hydrocarbons in March 2001, after the Frøy and Lille Frigg fields ceased production in 2001 and 1999, respectively. In 2009, Total (now TotalEnergies) submitted the Frostpipe disposal plan and recommended leaving the pipeline in place and trenching it, with rock dumping in places.
