Lapa is a pre-salt oil and gas field located in the Santos basin. It lies within the core pre-salt cluster area and was known as Carioca before its declaration of commerciality in December 2013. Lapa was discovered in 2007, before Sapinhoá was discovered on the same block in 2008. The BM-S-9 block was then split into two sub-blocks for Lapa and Sapinhoá. Lapa full commercial production began in late 2016 through the 100,000 b/d FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba.
