Sabalo is a giant gas/condensate field, located in the San Antonio Block in southern Bolivia. It is operated by Petrobras, which also operates the large San Alberto gas/condensate field (see separate analysis) to the south of Sabalo. Petrobras carried out a fast-track phased development of Sabalo, running concurrently with the development of San Alberto. Sabalo came onstream in November 2002, less than three years after it was discovered. The driver behind the fields' rapid development was Petrobras' desire to export the gas to Brazil. In 2019, YPFB announced a 2.1 Mcmd pressure compression plant to be added in the field by 2020.
