The Scarborough gas field is located 270 kilometres off the northwest coast of Western Australia, in water depths of over 900 metres. It was discovered in 1979. Scarborough is a sizeable resource, although the gas is dry with almost no associated liquids. This, together with the remoteness of the field and the water depth, make the development technically and commercially difficult, despite its considerable reserves.
